Why does Google say my app is unrecognized?
Direct answerGoogle disapproves the ad when it cannot recognize the app. The unrecognized app examples are a malformed app ID, incomplete or malformed store information, and an app the store has deleted or suspended. A warning is issued at least 7 days before suspension. After you edit and save, re-review typically takes 24–48 hours.
The three examples
Google says the following leads to an unrecognized-app disapproval. The list is non-exhaustive:
- Apps with malformed app IDs.
- Apps with incomplete or malformed app-store information.
- Apps that have been deleted or suspended in the app store.
Interpretation: the first two are problems in the identifier or the listing data you submitted. The third is a status on the store’s side. Editing a headline does not change a suspended listing. Restoring the app, or advertising a different app the store still lists, is what makes the example stop applying. The page itself tells you to edit the ad so it complies and save it.
A name problem is a different label
If the store can see the app and the ad never says what the app is called or where to download it, that is unidentified business. If Google cannot match the app at all, you are on this page. An app ad can fail both: a bad ID and a creative that never names the app. Fix the one in the disapproval, then check the other before you resubmit.
After the listing matches
- Confirm the app ID in the ad is the ID on the live store listing.
- Fill in the store information the disapproval is flagging, or move the ad off a deleted or suspended app.
- Edit the ad or asset and save. Re-review typically takes 24–48 hours. Check Status on Ads & assets.
- Appeal from the account if the listing is valid and you believe the label is wrong.

Frequently asked questions
The app is live and the ad still says unrecognized. What does Google name?
Malformed app IDs and incomplete or malformed store information are both examples. A working app with the wrong ID in the ad matches the first example. Compare the ID in the ad with the ID on the store listing, then edit and save.
The store suspended the app. Will a new headline clear it?
No. Deleted or suspended in the app store is a named example. The disapproval describes the store record. Restore the listing or point the ad at an app the store still offers, then save. Re-review typically takes 24–48 hours.
Is a missing app name this label?
An app ad that never shows the app name and the download source is unidentified business. Unrecognized app is Google failing to match the app to a store record.
