How do I submit an EU energy label in Google Shopping?
Direct answerFor an EU graphical energy label, submit certification authority EC, name EPREL, and the EPREL registration number as the code. Google’s EPREL page, reviewed November 2, 2026, says Google looks up the label from that code. The energy efficiency class fields are not this attribute.
The EPREL code
The certification attribute is optional on its own page, and it is how Google accepts a supported certification. For EPREL, authority is EC or European_Commission. Name is EPREL. The code is required. Google’s example takes the number from a URL such as https://eprel.ec.europa.eu/screen/product/…/123456 and submits 123456.
A text feed can use the header certification(certification_authority:certification_name:certification_code) and the value EC:EPREL:123456. If the header does not name the sub-attributes, Google assumes three values in the order authority, name, code. Empty sub-attributes still keep the colon.
The EPREL page says certain product groups on Shopping ads and free listings in the EU, EFTA, or the UK must be shown with a graphical energy label, including labels that still use an older scale and labels already rescaled to A–G. It does not name the product groups. Starting April 2025, the separate energy efficiency class attributes are only for products targeting Switzerland, Norway, or the United Kingdom. EU products that need the graphical label use this certification instead. When the code is present, or when Google can add it from the GTIN or MPN, the EPREL page says the certificate shows on surfaces in Europe.
If you do not submit a certification, the attribute page says Google may add one from the GTIN and MPN. You can replace that by submitting the certification yourself. Missing the supported combination produces a warning in Needs attention. The attribute page says no products are disapproved for failing that minimum. It does not print a 7-day suspension warning.
The other certifications on the same attribute
| Certification | What Google asks you to submit | Where that page says it shows |
|---|---|---|
| EU energy label | Authority EC or European_Commission, name EPREL, code from the EPREL URL. | Surfaces in Europe, when the code is provided or filled from GTIN or MPN. |
| Energy Star | Authority EPA or Environmental_Protection_Agency. Name ENERGY_STAR, or ENERGY_STAR_MOST_EFFICIENT. Code is the Energy Star Unique ID. | Free product experiences in the United States and Canada. The page calls this optional. |
| France vehicle CO2 | Authority ADEME, name Vehicle_CO2_Class, and the class in certification value. The page calls this optional for merchants in France. | Vehicle listings in France. |
| Germany vehicle CO2 | Authority BMWK, name Vehicle_CO2_Class, class in certification value. A hybrid also needs Vehicle_CO2_Class_Discharged_Battery as a second certification. The page says this is required for merchants in Germany. | Vehicle listings in Germany. |
The vehicle example on the attribute page is ADEME:Vehicle_CO2_Class:C under a header that ends in certification_value. Certification can repeat, which is how the German hybrid submits two classes. These vehicle rows are feed fields for a class you already have. They are not a method for calculating a CO2 class.
The Energy Star, France, and Germany pages do not say a missing value disapproves the Shopping product. The Germany page does say the certification is required. Read that as the page’s own word, and keep the attribute page’s warning sentence next to it.

Frequently asked questions
Is the EPREL code the letter on the energy label?
No. Google’s EPREL page says the code is the number in the EPREL product URL. Its example is a URL ending in 123456, and the code is 123456. The letter grade stays on the energy efficiency class attributes, and those attributes are a different page.
Will a missing certification disapprove the product?
The certification attribute page says a missing supported combination produces a warning in Needs attention, and that no products are disapproved for missing that minimum. Google may add certification data from the GTIN and MPN. The Germany vehicle page separately says the CO2 certification is required for merchants in Germany. This article does not treat those two sentences as the same outcome.
A hybrid needs two German CO2 classes. Is that two feeds?
No. Certification can repeat. Google’s Germany page says a hybrid needs the combined class and the discharged-battery class as two certifications. The names are Vehicle_CO2_Class and Vehicle_CO2_Class_Discharged_Battery. The authority is BMWK. The class itself goes in certification value, not in the code.
Check the energy claim against the product page
LaunchGuarding can scan the ad and the landing page for an energy claim the feed is about to overstate.
