Why was my TikTok ad rejected?
Direct answerTikTok rejected the ad because review found a misleading claim in the creative or on the landing page. Fix instant/exaggerated results, before/after edits, unsupported “#1” language, or a destination that does not match the offer — then resubmit the same ad, do not clone it.
What TikTok actually publishes about rejections

Platforms do not publish a global pie chart of rejection reasons. TikTok’s For Business blog is the closest first-party source. It lists three common pitfalls: intellectual-property infringement (unauthorized music, logos, or likeness), ad-creative consistency with the landing page — their example is 50% off in the ad and 30% on the site — and misleading or inconsistent information, including exaggerated product effects. The 1.8 million figure appears in that last section. It is a volume number for one quarter, not a 2026 share of all rejects.
For most DTC Spark Ads, the operational fail is that third bucket: claims and destinations. IP still matters if you used unlicensed audio or a celebrity face. The six patterns below are how misleading-content review usually shows up in Ads Manager.
What TikTok checks when an ad is rejected
According to TikTok’s advertising review guidance, reviewers look at the product or service, the ad content, and the landing page — including whether the page works and whether it is consistent with the ad. Overlay text and captions count as copy. The thumbnail counts as creative.
The policy most performance accounts hit is misleading and false content, which sits under TikTok’s advertising policies. Restricted industries (finance, health, gambling) can add a second fail even after you quiet the script.
How those three pitfalls show up in DTC ads
| Reason | Example | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Instant or exaggerated effect | “Get slim legs right away.” | Script, captions, overlay |
| Before/after comparison | Split-screen, “wrinkles gone after one use.” | Recut the video |
| Unsupported ranking | “#1 essence on TikTok.” | Drop the leaderboard claim |
| Landing-page mismatch | Ad: 50% off. Page: 30% off. | Match offer on the URL |
| Medical or financial miracle | “This tea cures diabetes.” / “Money in 10 seconds.” | Describe the product, not the outcome |
| Broken or gated destination | 404, app-only interstitial, login before terms | Open the URL logged out on mobile |
Does TikTok allow before and after videos?
TikTok’s misleading-content policy restricts product-effect comparisons such as before/after results that create a false or distorted impression. A split-screen with “watch wrinkles disappear after one use” is that pattern. Safer: one shot of the product being used, no morph, no overnight face. Put any result language on a page that can substantiate it — or omit it.
Does TikTok reject ads for landing page mismatch?
Yes. TikTok treats inconsistent promotions, prices, discounts, or terms between the ad and the website as misleading. Their own rejection post uses this example: the ad says 50% off, the landing page says 30% off. Reviewers also fail destinations that do not load, require a login to see the offer, or advertise a different product than the creative.
How to fix a rejected TikTok ad
- Open TikTok Ads Manager, open the rejected ad, and read the review note. Split creative issues (claim, overlay, before/after) from destination issues (mismatch, broken page).
- Remove instant, guaranteed, overnight, “right away,” “#1,” and timeframe body or money results from the script, captions, overlay, and thumbnail.
- Replace split-screen before/after and miracle-edit shots with the product in a real setting.
- Open the landing page logged out on a phone. Confirm product, price, discount, and terms match the ad. Fix 404s and login walls.
- Resubmit the edited ad. Appeal only after the asset changed, and only if you believe the new version complies.
Duplicating a Spark Ad so “a fresh one can pass” does not clear the claim. Edit the asset TikTok already flagged. If several ads share one URL, fix the page once.
TikTok vs Meta vs Google: same copy, different fail
Meta often rejects copy that implies something personal about the viewer (health, debt, age). Google Search more often flags improbable results as “unreliable claims.” TikTok more often flags instant effects, before/after comparisons, ranking claims, and page mismatch. Pasting a Meta-approved caption into a Spark Ad is not a TikTok pass. See can I use the same ad copy on Facebook, Google, and TikTok? and why Facebook image ads get rejected.
Frequently asked questions
Why was my TikTok ad rejected?
TikTok’s own For Business post does not rank one reason as #1. It names three common pitfalls: intellectual-property infringement, ad-creative consistency with the landing page, and misleading or exaggerated claims. For DTC performance ads, that last bucket is where instant results, before/after edits, “#1 on TikTok” language, and destination mismatch sit.
Does TikTok review the landing page?
Yes. TikTok’s advertising review guidance says reviewers check the product or service, the ad content, and the landing page — including whether the page works and whether it is consistent with the ad. A clean video can still fail if the page shows a different discount, a 404, or a login wall.
Are before and after ads allowed on TikTok?
TikTok’s misleading-and-false-content policy restricts product-effect comparisons such as before/after results that create a false or distorted impression. Split-screens and “wrinkles gone after one use” edits are the usual fail. Show the product in use; do not morph the result in the cut.
Can I say my product is number 1 on TikTok?
Not as an unsupported ranking claim. TikTok restricts absolute superiority language that may mislead viewers. “The #1 essence on TikTok” without independent proof is the pattern their policy covers. Describe ingredients or what the product is for instead.
How long does TikTok ad review take after I resubmit?
Review time varies by account and industry. Edit the rejected creative or destination first — do not duplicate the same Spark Ad. Restricted categories (finance, health, gambling) can still fail a quieter script if the advertiser lacks industry permission.
What is the most common reason TikTok ads get rejected?
TikTok does not publish a ranked percentage. Its own For Business blog lists three common pitfalls: intellectual-property infringement, ad-creative consistency with the landing page (including price), and misleading or exaggerated claims. In Q2 2021 TikTok said it rejected 1,829,219 ads for violating advertising policies, in the section on misleading information.
