What Google Ads scripts are not allowed to do

Updated October 9, 2026 · 7 min read · Reviewed against public platform policy pages

Direct answerGoogle does not allow scripts that get around Ads limits, that use unsupported access, or that disrupt the platform. The unacceptable script page also requires you to provide every script within 2 business days of a request, including scripts stored outside Google Ads. Account suspension under this technical policy still comes with a warning at least 7 days ahead. Script suspension can be faster.

What the page lists as not allowed

  • Using scripts to circumvent restrictions or limits on Google Ads, or for any non-business purpose. The example is circumventing operations quota limits.
  • Unsupported ways of accessing scripts. Acceptable methods are the ones in the Google Ads Scripts documentation. This policy page does not reprint that list.
  • Excessive or abusive use, including unreasonable request volumes.
  • Scripts that modify, disrupt, or disable features, performance, or functionality of Google Ads.
  • Failing to follow best practices when a script reads more than 1 million entities, such as keywords or ads, or edits more than 100 thousand entities a day. Google says to use the scripts documentation for those practices.

The 1 million and 100 thousand figures are thresholds in the not-allowed section, tied to best practices. They are not a published promise that every smaller script is approved. The documentation Google points to is the source for how to stay inside those practices.

Audit, notice, and the two clocks

Google may monitor and audit script activity. That can include accessing, reviewing, and using your script, for example to identify security issues that could affect Google or its users. On request, you must provide access to all Google Ads scripts, even those stored outside Google Ads, within 2 business days. You cannot interfere with that monitoring, and you cannot conceal or obfuscate script activity.

Notice goes to the email addresses of users with administrative access to the manager account or the Google Ads account. Google may also require more contact information. If you do not correct the violation within 2 business days of notification, Google may suspend all scripts in the manager account or the Google Ads account, or reduce your rate limits. If Google reasonably believes the violation is serious, such as a script that disrupts or disables Ads features, performance, or functionality, it may suspend all scripts with no prior notice.

Those script clocks sit next to a separate account rule. Violations of this policy will not lead to immediate account suspension without prior warning. A warning is issued at least 7 days before any suspension of the account. A script can be stopped on the 2-business-day clock, or immediately in the serious case, while the account-suspension warning is still the 7-day notice.

This is not an egregious circumventing-systems suspension

Opening another account after a ban, cloaking, or evading a certification is circumventing systems. That policy can suspend the account on detection, with no warning. A script that tries to get around a quota is written on the unacceptable-script page, which is a technical requirement with the 7-day account warning above. Do not treat a script disapproval as that egregious suspension, and do not treat an egregious suspension as something a script edit will clear.

Google’s fix steps say to check scripts for abusive or excessive activity and edit them so they comply, then save. The usual edit-and-save re-review language is also on the page. Check Ads & assets for status. This article does not describe how to raise a quota or how to hide a script. Hiding the script is one of the acts the audit section forbids.

Frequently asked questions

Will a script violation suspend the Google Ads account the same day?

The unacceptable-script page warns at least 7 days before an account suspension. Separately, Google may suspend all scripts in the manager or Google Ads account, or reduce rate limits, if you do not correct the violation within 2 business days of notice. A serious disruption can lead to a script suspension with no prior notice.

Do scripts stored outside Google Ads count?

Yes. If Google asks, you must provide access to all of your Google Ads scripts, including scripts stored outside Google Ads, within 2 business days. You cannot interfere with monitoring or conceal script activity.

Is a 1 million entity read an automatic ban?

The not-allowed list includes failing to follow best practices when scripts read more than 1 million entities, such as keywords or ads, or edit more than 100 thousand entities a day. Google points to the scripts documentation for those best practices and does not reprint them on the policy page.

Review the account before a script scales a violation
