Can I advertise cryptocurrency, exchanges, and wallets?
Direct answerSome crypto ads can run. Exchange, wallet-with-trading, staking, and “buy this token” products need licenses plus platform permission. ICOs, DeFi protocols, crypto loans, and signal sites are prohibited on Google regardless of country. A hardware wallet that only stores keys, or a shop that merely accepts Bitcoin, is a different ticket. Do not paste loan APR rules onto an exchange ad.
This is not the loans playbook
Credit APR, 61-day repayment, and Meta’s Financial products Special Ad Category are documented in loans, credit cards, and mortgages. Whether crypto is restricted or prohibited at a high level is prohibited vs restricted. This page is the exchange-and-wallet checklist: which license, which Google row, which claims still fail.
Three Google buckets
Google’s Cryptocurrencies and related products policy is the clearest public split.
| Bucket | Published examples |
|---|---|
| No application required (still must follow law and other policies) | Businesses that accept payment in cryptocurrency; mining hardware; tax, legal, security, and blockchain-ops tools that do not market or sell tokens; educational materials with no investment advice, tips, odds, calculators, or technical trend analysis; NFT games whose items are consumed or used in play |
| Allowed with limitations (license + Google certification + approved location) | Exchanges and, in listed countries, software wallets; hardware wallets that hold keys but do not buy, sell, exchange, or trade; US coin trusts registered under Exchange Act Form 10-12g |
| Prohibited everywhere | ICO pre-sales or public offerings; crypto loans; initial DEX offerings; token liquidity pools; unhosted software wallets; unregulated dApps; aggregators or affiliates with broker reviews, trading signals, or investment advice; NFT games that stake NFTs for real-world value |
Platform rule: if the location is not on Google’s approved list, those certified products cannot be advertised. Separate applications are required per location or location group. Applications moved into the Google Ads account (Help Center submissions stopped in June 2026 for this cert).
US Google licensing (exchanges vs hardware)
For exchanges targeting the United States, Google requires either (a) FinCEN Money Services Business registration and state money-transmitter registration, or (b) a federal or state chartered bank, plus Google certification and any other federal or state legal requirements. Hardware wallets are allowed with limitations when they store private keys for crypto, NFTs, or other crypto-based assets and do not offer purchasing, selling, exchanging, or trading. Coin trusts need successful Section 12 registration on Form 10-12g.
Interpretation: a “cold wallet” landing page that also lets users swap tokens inside the companion app is an exchange-class product. Do not file the hardware row to dodge FinCEN.
Meta permission
Meta’s Cryptocurrency products and services Advertising Standard says ads may not promote cryptocurrency trading platforms, software, and related services and products that enable monetization, reselling, swapping, or staking without prior written permission. Meta’s Business Help Centre article is the application companion. The Transparency Centre text we reviewed also names exchanges (spot, margin, futures), wallets that add extra services, mining software, and investment/affiliate aggregators as needing a recognized regulatory licence plus written permission through Authorizations and verifications in Meta Business Suite.
We could not independently load every “no permission needed” example from Meta’s page in this review pass. If your product is education, a conference, or merchant acceptance only, confirm the live Standard rather than assuming it is exempt.
TikTok US and Canada
TikTok’s finance industry table for Canada and the United States (in the article we reviewed) allows ads when the advertiser complies with law, required disclosures and regulator/third-party credentials, local licensing, and 18+ targeting. Published examples of what may be allowed include cryptocurrencies and mining devices, exchange/management of fiat or virtual funds, loans, NFTs, and virtual currencies — with an explicit NFT note: do not imply NFTs are an investment or that they can be traded in the market. Payday-style products and credit repair appear on nearby “not allowed” lists; do not import those into a token ad. Confirm Financial services and products and industry entry for your market.
Copy that still fails after you are certified
| Risky | Safer (if the product is actually eligible) |
|---|---|
| “10x your bag this week. Our signals never miss.” | Google lists trading signals and investment advice as prohibited destinations. Do not run this as an exchange brand ad either. |
| “Unhosted wallet — your keys, DeFi yield vault included.” | Unhosted software wallets and DeFi protocols are on Google’s prohibited list. A certified custodial exchange is a different product. |
| “This NFT will 100x. Limited mint.” | “In-game armor for the campaign season.” (Consumed item, no investment pitch — and still confirm NFT-game rules.) |
Guaranteed-return language is also an unreliable-claims problem on Google even when the SKU is certified — see why Google ads get disapproved.
Setup workflow
- Name the SKU: exchange, custodial/software wallet, hardware wallet with no trade, coin trust, merchant acceptance, mining hardware, education, NFT game, ICO/DeFi. The bucket is the policy.
- If Google lists it under prohibited content (ICO, DeFi protocol, crypto loan, unhosted software wallet, signals/advice aggregator), stop. Copy will not save it.
- If it needs certification, collect the license Google/Meta name for that country (US: FinCEN MSB + state money transmitter or chartered bank) and apply in-account.
- Strip investment-advice, guaranteed-return, and “signals” language from the ad, overlay, and first screen.
- On TikTok US/Canada, use the finance industry path: licensed, 18+, required disclosures — and do not pitch NFTs as investments.
Affiliate hops that pretend to be the exchange are an identity problem, documented in dropshipping and affiliate ads, not a keyword-trademark problem.
Frequently asked questions
Is crypto advertising banned on Google?
No. Many products are restricted. Google lets some businesses advertise without an application (for example, merchants that accept crypto payment, mining hardware, tax/legal/security services that do not sell tokens, and educational materials that are not investment advice). Exchanges, software wallets, and coin trusts need location-specific licensing plus Google certification. ICOs, DeFi trading protocols, crypto loans, unhosted software wallets, unregulated dApps, and signal/advice aggregators are listed as prohibited regardless of location.
Can a US exchange run Google Ads?
Google’s United States row allows exchange ads if the advertiser is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business and with a state as a money transmitter, or is a federal or state chartered bank, plus Google certification and any other local law. Hardware wallets that only store keys (no buy/sell/swap) are a separate allowed-with-limitations row. Confirm the live table before you file.
Do I need Meta permission to say we accept Bitcoin at checkout?
Meta’s Advertising Standards require prior written permission for ads that promote cryptocurrency trading platforms, software, and related products that enable monetization, reselling, swapping, or staking. A merchant-acceptance line sits closer to “we take a payment method” than to an exchange. Confirm the live help article — do not treat this as a Meta advisory opinion. If the landing page opens a trade ticket, you are in the permission bucket.
Can I advertise an NFT game?
Google allows promotion of blockchain-based games involving NFTs when in-game items are consumed or used to play (armor, apparel), and prohibits games where players wager or stake NFTs for real-world value, including other NFTs. TikTok’s US/Canada finance row allows NFT ads if you do not imply they are an investment or tradable on a market. Treat “buy this JPEG as a store of value” as a different product.

Crypto advertising is dual-regulated (platforms plus financial regulators). Product rows change by country. This page is a reading of public policy pages as of September 20, 2026. It is not legal advice, not an SEC or FinCEN opinion, and not a guarantee of approval. Recheck the live articles before you spend.
Scan the exchange copy after the cert is in
LaunchGuarding will not file FinCEN paperwork — but it will flag yield, signals, and guaranteed-return lines that still fail after you are allowlisted.
