Can I advertise abortion services or abortion information?

Updated September 23, 2026 · 9 min read · Reviewed against public platform policy pages

Direct answerOn Google, abortion ads are banned in a specific location list and do not run on the Display Network. In the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland, Search ads that use queries about getting an abortion need certification. Google then adds either “Provides abortions” or “Does not provide abortions.” Targeting only a banned location gets a disapproval. Mixing banned and allowed locations becomes Eligible (limited) and serves only where the policy allows.

Locations where Google does not allow the ads

Google’s abortion policy, reviewed on September 23, 2026, says abortion ads are not allowed in:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Argentina
  • Aruba
  • Bahamas
  • Bahrain
  • Belgium
  • Belize
  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Cayman Islands
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Djibouti
  • Dominica
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador
  • Egypt
  • El Salvador
  • France
  • Germany
  • Grenada
  • Guadeloupe
  • Guatemala
  • Haiti
  • Honduras
  • Hong Kong
  • Hungary
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Italy
  • Jamaica
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • Malaysia
  • Martinique
  • Mexico
  • Morocco
  • Nicaragua
  • Oman
  • Pakistan
  • Palestinian Territory
  • Panama
  • Paraguay
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Poland
  • Qatar
  • Russia
  • Saint Barthelemy
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Sri Lanka
  • St. Kitts and Nevis
  • St. Lucia
  • Suriname
  • Switzerland
  • Syria
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand
  • Tunisia
  • Ukraine
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Uruguay
  • Venezuela
  • Yemen

Recheck that list before launch. If those locations are the only targets, Google says the ads will be disapproved. If an allowed location is in the same target set, the status is Eligible (limited) and the ads only show where they are allowed. They still will not appear on the Google Display Network.

Violations of this policy do not suspend the account immediately. Google says a warning comes at least 7 days before suspension. Lying on the certification is a different problem: the application page says concealing or misstating the business can be misrepresentation, and false verification information can be circumventing systems.

US, UK, and Ireland Search queries

Google’s certification article says that in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland, ads using queries related to getting an abortion require approval as an advertiser that either provides abortions or does not. If you are not approved, those queries will not run. Google adds one of two disclosures on all Search formats: “Provides abortions” or “Does not provide abortions.”

A location-based provider is an organization that provides abortions at its own facilities. Google’s examples include hospitals, abortion clinics, other clinics, and physician’s offices where abortions are performed or pills are dispensed on site.

For United States advertisers only, medication abortion or pills that are not dispensed at your own facilities — including mail dispensing after a telemedicine consult, by a provider authorized to do that — is the certified-online-pharmacy path. That also has to meet prescription-drug services certification. Use telehealth and prescription ads for that second gate. Do not treat a mail pharmacy as “just” the abortion disclosure.

An advertiser that does not provide abortions, in Google’s examples, can include pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling, general information, referrals, or other services for pregnant people that do not include providing abortions. The same application can cover non-service content such as books or perspectives. The disclosure still has to match what the organization does.

TikTok and Meta

TikTok’s healthcare and pharmaceuticals policy is a market table. In the Canada medical-institutions row reviewed on September 23, 2026, abortion is an example of what is not allowed, along with surrogacy and the sale of sperm, ova, embryos, or cells to create a human being. The United States medical-institutions row in that same review does not use the abortion sentence. Absence from the US examples is not an approval. Open the live country block.

The Meta Advertising Standards pages retrieved for this article did not include a dedicated abortion chapter. Do not invent one. Local law still applies. Copy that tells a person they are pregnant, or asks “were you pregnant?”, can still fail personal attributes.

Setup workflow

  1. Remove every location on Google’s banned list from the campaign. Targeting only those locations gets a disapproval. Mixing them with an allowed location becomes Eligible (limited) and serves only where ads are allowed.
  2. Do not plan on Display or video inventory. Google says abortion ads will not appear on the Display Network.
  3. In the US, UK, or Ireland, if the keywords are about getting an abortion, apply and state whether the organization provides abortions. Google writes the disclosure. Do not fake the provider status.
  4. US mail-order medication abortion also has to clear prescription-drug certification. On-site care is the location-based provider application.
  5. On TikTok, open the market table. Canada’s medical-institutions row names abortion as not allowed. The US row does not use that sentence. That silence is not an approval.

Frequently asked questions

Do US abortion Search ads need a label?

If the ad uses queries related to getting an abortion, yes. In the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland, Google requires certification as an advertiser that either provides abortions or does not. Google then adds “Provides abortions” or “Does not provide abortions” on Search formats. The United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland are not on the banned-location list reviewed for this article.

Can a clinic that mails abortion pills use only the abortion certificate?

Not on the application page we reviewed. Google says a US advertiser that provides medication abortions or pills but does not dispense them at its own facilities is treated as a certified online pharmacy. That path also has to meet the prescription-drug services requirements. A hospital or clinic that provides abortions at its own facilities, including a physician’s office that dispenses pills there, is the location-based provider path.

Will the ad run on Display if Search is approved?

No. Google says abortion ads will not appear on the Google Display Network, including ads that are Eligible (limited) and targeted at approved locations.
